Actions at the Capitol Impact Oklahoma's Economy & Jobs

/images/take_action.gif ACTION ALERT
CENTER

            Taxing employee health insurance
                              is a bad idea!

Leading Members of Congress are proposing that Americans with employer-provided health insurance should pay federal income taxes on a portion of these benefits to cover costs of insurance for those who do not have it.

This plan just doesn't make sense.  Taxing workers on their health insurance benefits will lead to fewer of us who can afford health care – not more.   Learn More.

Write the President and your Members of Congress. Urge them to oppose taxing employee health insurance benefits.

               Rebuilding America's economy
                   takes workplace teamwork

Click here for an informative video!Today American employees and employers must pull together to keep our companies and our jobs alive.  But labor unions’ push for a new law that threatens worker privacy and expands unionization make businesses question their future survival.

If passed by Congress, the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) eliminates union elections and secret ballots, substituting a card check system.  Employers fear intimidation of employees who have yet to sign. More.

Write Oklahoma’s members of Congress who all oppose EFCA.   Thank them! Urge them to stay strong under pressure.

President Obama supports EFCA. Ask him to reconsider his position and oppose the bill.

New climate change bill is not
                 in America's best interest

The Waxman-Markey global warming bill sets new greenhouse gas limits and a 'cap and trade' system to regulate them.  It will be voted on in Congress very soon.  Learn more.

But efforts to reduce carbon dioxide must be grounded in realistic, achievable energy policies that preserve American jobs and competitiveness, promote new technology, encourage development of existing and new clean energy sources, and are international in scope. The Waxman-Markey bill creates serious problems for America’s economy.

Write the President and your Members of Congress. Urge them to oppose HR 2998 (formerly HR 2454) and any legislation that increases energy costs while reducing America's ability to compete in the global economy.

More energy – Not more taxes!

The President and some leading Members of Congress are proposing new energy taxes and fees that threaten not only domestic supplies of oil and natural gas -- but Oklahoma jobs.

These tax hikes will impact an already struggling American economy and energy companies – big and small.  More.

Ask President Obama to stop new taxes and support a balanced energy policy that encourages oil and natural gas development.

Write Members of Congress who oppose these taxes including all Oklahoma's Legislators.
Thank them. Urge them to keep up the fight!

                 New lawsuit reform boosts
                economic competitiveness

Governor Henry's signature on Oklahoma's new, comprehensive lawsuit reform legislation 'will create jobs, increase health care accessibility in all corners of the state, and show outside companies that Oklahoma is now open for business,' reports Mike Seney, The State Chamber's Senior Vice President of Operations. Learn More.

Health care expands, lower costs expected

/Oklahoma/signedlaw.gifHB 2026 creates a 'core benefits' insurance policy for young, healthy Oklahomans under 40 to purchase cheaper insurance policies without cost increases brought on by the state's required 36 benefit mandates. The Insure Oklahoma! program -- where employers, employees, and the state share in the cost of employee health insurance - will offer more low-cost choices, like health savings accounts, to cover major medical expenses.  Learn More.
