Special Election Finally Resolved

After going to the Oklahoma Supreme Court, the special election for House District 71 has been declared voided.  The special election between Republican Katie Henke and Democrat Dan Arthrell was held on March 6.  When polls closed, Arthrell was ahead by 3 votes but after a recount Henke had the lead by 1 vote.  Then, poll workers found two ballots that had not been previously counted and would have made Arthrell the winner.  However, these ballots could not be counted as they had not been secured in accordance with Oklahoma law.  To resolve the highly contentious situation, the Supreme Court decided that neither candidate would be declared the winner.  Both Henke and Arthrell are running for the seat in the 2012 normal cycle elections.

Our Rising Debt - An Economic Time Bomb
National Debt Clock

Our nation is at an economic crossroads. With our national debt rapidly increasing as a share of our total economy and our nation's economic growth stagnated, we can no longer wait for the next generation to make the tough decisions necessary to resolve our fiscal issues. The report of The National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform had it exactly right in its Preamble, issued in December 2010:

"Throughout our nation's history, Americans have found the courage to do the right thing by our children's future. Deep down, every American knows we face a moment of truth once again. We cannot play games or put off hard choices any longer. Without regard to party, we have a patriotic duty to keep the promise of American to give our children and grandchildren a better life."
